Thinking the difference

BP Workwear has been synonymous with high quality that you can feel for 225 years. Now in the seventh generation, our skills and our passion are dedicated to serving you and improving your everyday life at work. Our aim is always to be the crucial step ahead – when it comes to function, comfort and design. We have a real zest for developing workwear which lasts for a long time – and is sustainable.

Sustainability is firmly rooted in our values and we work continuously to boost it. This is demonstrated firstly by the fact that BP products are manufactured under fair conditions. This is monitored by BP teams at a local level and the independent Fair Wear Foundation regularly checks whether our social standards are met. You can view the results of these checks at

On the other hand, looking at the issue of sustainability is also leading to a rethink in the way we use resources. The population is growing and raw materials are becoming ever scarcer. In order to find a solution to resolve this conflict, we have developed in cooperation with our partners the vision of workwear based on the “Cradle to Cradle®” principle (C2C®).

Making the difference

Cradle to Cradle is the idea of the endless biological cycle. The aim is to produce no waste by ensuring that every product once again becomes the basis for new life and raw materials.
The challenge with the C2C® principle is to find a biodegradable alternative for all the constituent parts of a product, that is to say from the material, colours and fasteners right through to the yarn.

As well as the biodegradability of all materials, Cradle to Cradle® also takes account of the amount of energy used in the textile manufacturing chain, as well as CO2 management, the res- ponsible handling of water and social fairness in production. Certification is provided by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. The five certification levels (Basic, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) show how many Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM** criteria the product meets. The certificate is valid for two years.

The stated BP aim is to develop the first collection which can be fully returned to the biological cycle in accordance with the C2C® principle – and in addition combines all of the characteristics that are typical of BP.

Feeling the difference

Building on the textile innovation reworx®* from the company Lauffenmühle, we have developed the BP Bio Cycle collection concept. BP Bio Cycle is the first Cradle to Cradle workwear collection of reworx® textiles to be certified. It has been awarded the Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM Silver** certificate.

The blended fabric reworx® consists of a biodegradable synthetic fibre and a wood cellulose fibre. Under the correct composting conditions and after the end of its use it once again becomes part of the biological cycle. In addition, reworx® offers all the advantages of a standard blended fabric: long durability, a high degree of suppleness and a silky gloss. It is colourfast and quickly absorbs moisture.

BP Bio Cycle is a workwear concept for hospitals and practices, which combines social and ecological sustainability with BP‘s typical requirement for comfort, durability and washability.

C2C Certified Silver

Workwear Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM Silver* Frequently asked questions:

Who disposes of the product?
After using the goods, simply return them to BP; together with our partners, we will take care of the composting. This is because the product only becomes part of the biological cycle again under the correct composting conditions.

Does the product decompose while it is being worn?
No, the product only starts to decompose under industrial composting conditions. Its durability is the same as that of all other BP products.

Do you notice differences when wearing it?
No. The product is just as comfortable to wear as fabrics containing 50% cotton/50% polyester, e.g. Comfortec® from the company Lauffenmühle. In addition to the usual advantages of blended fabrics, it also offers other benefits: The fabric ensures a balanced climate, absorbs moisture faster and also dries very quickly.

What do you need to note when washing the product?
Just the washing instructions. The products are boil-proof and suitable for industrial laundering (in accordance with ISO 15797). Otherwise they are washed in the same way as any other blended fabric.
