Lucart earns Cradle to Cradle Bronze Certification for sustainable paperproducts

Lucart’s French plant in Laval-sur-Vologne has received Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze certification for its hygienic paper products, recognizing its commitment to circular economy principles.

Lucart awarded Cradle to Cradle Certified certification

Laval-sur-Vologne – Lucart is an international company from Italy that specializes in hygienic paper products. The company’s efforts to promote sustainability have now been recognized in the form of a Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze certification for its French plant for hygienic paper products.

Lucart has been awarded a Bronze level Cradle to Cradle Certified certification for toilet paper and paper hand towels. The manufacturer of paper products has for some time now pursued sustainable production processes, thereby promoting the circular economy in the process. In this context, Lucart has only recently concluded a pilot project with schools in Latvia and Slovakia with the aim of using the curriculum to raise awareness of the principles of the circular economy. For this purpose, additional courses were held with teachers, among other measures.

Lucart’s efforts to promote sustainability have now been recognized in the form of a Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze certification. This was awarded for products in which the Cradle to Cradle circular economy principle plays a particularly important role. After all, the hygienic paper used to produce toilet paper and paper hand towels ultimately ends up in the water cycle after use. The certified products are EcoNatural, Eco, Strong, Skytech Easy and Aquastream (Plastavana WS CHEVREUIL, CR 250 WS BLEU, CR 250 WS, PLASTAVANA WS, OVATEX WS). All Lucart products in the EcoNatural range are manufactured from used drinks cartons. These are broken down into their individual components, which are then re-used in various different guises. The cellulose fibers, for example, are transformed into what is known as Fibrepack Paper, which provides the base material for the toilet paper and paper hand towels that have now been certified. The certified products are manufactured in the company’s French plant located in Laval-sur-Vologne, a small town around 100 km to the south-west of Strasbourg. The production facility has also been certified in accordance with ISO 14001 for Environmental Management Systems and ISO 50001 for Energy Management Systems. Moreover, Blue Angel and PEFC certifications have also been awarded.

EPEA Switzerland, the accredited expert for Cradle to Cradle Certified and C2C Certified Material Health Certificate certifications based in Bäch in the canton of Schwyz, has supported Lucart in its efforts to promote sustainability.

Lucart will now seek to make further progress with its sustainability measures. This also applies to re-certification, which has to be carried out every two years. By 2025, the company will aim to exclusively use packaging materials that are 100 percent recyclable or biodegradable, while all relevant materials used should be 100 percent recyclable or biodegradable by 2030. “The Earth’s ecosystem must be protected and we must safeguard the limited resources available to us”, explains Alessandro Pasquini, Managing Director of Lucart F in Laval-sur-Vologne.
