Mondi sets the standard for recyclable paper

Vienna/Bäch SZ – Mondi is now offering a range of uncoated fine papers that can be recycled in line with the principles of the circular economy. With the support of epeaswitzerland, the international packaging manufacturer has now been awarded a Cradle to Cradle Certified certification at Bronze level for this product portfolio.

Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper is leading the way in terms of sustainability, as detailed in a press release. According to information from the company itself, this business unit of the Mondi Group, a global packaging and paper manufacturer based in Vienna, London and South Africa, is now offering a new portfolio of products that can be recycled in line with the principles of the circular economy. For example, the company is the “first paper manufacturer” to include a range of uncoated fine papers to have been awarded a Bronze level Cradle to Cradle Certified certification in its portfolio. Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper secured this certification for its mills located in Austria, Slovakia and Russia with the support of epeaswitzerland, the accredited assessor for Cradle to Cradle Certified and C2C Certified Material Health Certificate certifications.

The Cradle to Cradle circular economy principle guarantees that all materials used will cause no harm to the biological and technical lifecycles. As such, the natural resources used by Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper in the manufacturing process for its range of uncoated fine papers are kept flowing in cycles. The company explains on its website that it uses “either fresh fiber from responsible forest management systems or 100% post-consumer recycled materials” to manufacture its products.

The uncoated fine papers developed by Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper are used in products such as books, art prints and luxury goods packaging, and are intended to set “special haptic accents”. For the certification of the product portfolio, a total of five key aspects were placed under the microscope: material health, product circularity, clean air and climate protection, water and soil stewardship, and social fairness. In the areas of product circularity and social fairness, the company achieved a Gold level certification, while a Bronze level certification was awarded in the other three areas. As such, the overall certification was also at Bronze level.
